Roswell Public Library Committee Looks at Overflow Crowds

The Roswell Public LibraryThe Roswell Daily Record reports on a committee formed by the public library to discuss how to handle overflow crowds at library events, especially during the library’s Summer Reading Program. The room where events are held can ‘only’ accommodate 150 people, by order of the Fire Marshall,  and it fills up fast.

Sounds like a good problem to have, but Children’s Librarian Deanne Dekle points out that the library doesn’t have the budget to offer the programs more than once. And so the library has to turn away the 151st child who wants to be part of a summer reading event.

The Albuquerque Journal  reports on the exhibit Enchantment: A Collaboration of the SCBWI-NM Writers and Illustrators that is currently up at the Los Griegos Library in Albuquerque. The show features local writers and illustrators who are part of the New Mexico chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. For this exhibit, the usual process was revered: the illustrators created the illustration first, and the writers wrote text to accompany it.
